Professional Bios

Steve Harvey, PresidentSteve Harvey, President

Mr. Harvey has over 25 years of broad based human resources experience in corporate, field, and consulting environments. He has provided human resource and employee counseling support at all levels and in many functional areas such as R & D, transportation, marketing, finance, planning, information systems, legal, aviation, healthier, environmental, and mining. His consulting has focused on employee selection, development of behavioral selection guides for management, corporate restructuring, training needs analysis and outplacement.

Steve has designed corporate recruiting programs for technical, financial, and operations functions. His experience in corporate downswing includes corporate reorganizations, internal placement, outplacement, training managers in employee terminations, legal compliance, and employee counseling. He also has extensive experience in industrial relations including labor-management cooperation programs, labor contract negotiations, and with union-free operations.

Steve was born in Indiana, holds a B.A. degree in Psychology from Wabash College, and attended graduate business school at Indiana University prior to his relocation to Southern California in 1977.

Roger Sommer, SPHR, Vice President, Client Relations

Mr. Sommer has been an outplacement consultant since 1990.  He is employed by The McGuire Group, OI Partners at its Torrance office as Vice President, Client Relations.  Earlier he was Vice President, Human Resources for Calavo Growers of California.  He has over twenty-five years of experience in all facets of human resources management with Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Western Gear Corporation.   In addition, Roger completed assignments as Managing Director of Western Gear Europe in Antwerp, Belgium and as Marketing Vice President of the U.S. company, Sky Climber, Inc. 

He earned a Masters of Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and a B.S. in Business Administration from Northwestern University.  Roger has taught graduate level Human Resources courses for Chapman University since 1991.  Earlier teaching experience includes Loyola Marymount University, the University of Maryland, and UCLA.  He serves on the Human Resources Advisory Board of California State University, Long Beach. 

In the greater Los Angeles area, Roger was the 1989 President of PIHRA, Professionals in Human Resources Association, is the President of the PIHRA Foundation, serves on the PIHRA Board of Directors and on various committees.  He received the 1995 Excellence in Human Resources Award and the 1995 President’s Award, both from PIHRA.  Roger is President of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) California State Council. 

He earned the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) lifetime accreditation from SHRM, the national HR organization.  Roger is past Chair of the National Employment Committee of SHRM, and he is the author or co-author of various “White Papers” and articles published in HRMagazine and HRNews.  Roger is a frequent speaker on a variety of Human Resources topics and has presented seminars coast to coast.  He has given media interviews to Los Angeles television channels 5 and 9 plus the Chicago Tribune, Fortune and Forbes magazines, the Arizona Republic newspaper, Business Week Online and numbers other publications. Outside the profession, he is a Planning Commissioner for the City of Rolling Hills, CA, and he chairs the Wildlife Preservation Committee for that city.

Stephen D. Schuster, Ph.D., Vice President, Client Services

Dr. Schuster is an executive coach and organizational development consultant with 30 years of broad-based experience in consulting across many industries.  Additionally, he has held strategic executive positions within major corporations.  The combination of his strategic business management experience with an extensive knowledge of human behavior provides a solid foundation to make significant contributions to improve individual and organizational success.   

Dr. Schuster has coached senior executives, managers and professionals on a wide range of development areas, including interpersonal and communication skills, management effectiveness, leadership development and team building.  His entertainment industry clients include Walt Disney Records, Time Warner’s Warner Music Group, BMG, Metropolitan Theaters, Capital EMI and LIVE Entertainment (now Artisan Entertainment).  Other clients include Hewlett Packard, Seagate Technologies, Los Angeles Police Department, Spalding Sporting Goods, Applied Equipment Corporation, INCO Homes, National Technical Services, Ultra-Violet Products, Inc. and Metropolitan Warehouse and Distribution.   

Steve’s organizational and executive development background is well established through a combination of corporate assignments and consulting.  As Senior Director, Human Resources at EMI-Capitol Music Distribution, he developed and implemented executive development and coaching programs for senior staff.  The process included the use of a 360 degree feedback instrument that was crucial in forming the basis for significant change.  He utilized team building and other organization development techniques as the basis for a culture change that dramatically improved productivity and profitability.  In addition, he was instrumental in reengineering the field and home office sales and marketing functions and in conducting functional training programs that reinforced the new culture and facilitated managerial and organizational growth.  As Manager, Management Development at Atlantic Richfield Company, Dr. Schuster conducted psychological management assessments followed by coaching and other development programs designed to enhance the management, leadership and communication styles of ARCO’s senior managers. 

With highly developed skills utilizing many instruments including Myers-Briggs, Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI), Hersey-Blanchard’s LEAD and Power Profiles, the FIRO-B and 360 degree feedback instruments including Skill Scope from the Center for Creative Leadership and Leadership/Impact from Human Synergistics, Dr. Schuster has the flexibility to select the appropriate measurement instruments to best fit each unique individual and situation. 

He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Texas and his Bachelors from Duke University.  Dr. Schuster is affiliated with UCLA, the Claremont Graduate University and California State University, Northridge, CA.

Joe Hilly, Vice President, Client Relations

Mr. Hilly received his law degree from Fordham University in 1961 and was admitted to the bar of the State of New York in 1962. Joe Hilly received his undergraduate degree in English from Fordham University in 1958.

Prior to engaging in the general practice of the law for four years, Mr. Hilly was appointed as a Special Assistant Attorney General in connection with the investigation and prosecution of criminal activity in the highway construction industry in the State of New York.

In addition to his background as a general practitioner, Mr. Hilly has over 25 years experience in the airline and railroad industries where he worked for such companies as TWA, Western Airlines, Delta Air Lines and the Burlington Northern Railroad as the Vice President of Labor Relations and Vice President of Employee Relations.

His experience includes personnel selection, training, labor relations including the litigation of arbitration cases and the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements covering various crafts.

Bill Zahn, Director of Client Services 

Mr. Zahn has twenty years experience in career coaching, human resources, and presenting training and development programs for industries including consumer products, entertainment, finance, manufacturing, and hospitality.

Prior to joining The McGuire Group in 1996, Bill contributed to the Human Resources programs at UCLA and W. R. Grace.  His broad-based background includes working extensively as a career transition workshop facilitator and as a personal career consultant and coach for individuals at all professional levels.  Representative clients include Toyota, Bank of America , Red Bull, Jamba Juice, GKN Aerospace, IMAX, Nortel Networks, Warner Music Group, Advanta and the National Academy for the Recording Arts Sciences.  He has designed diverse training programs for a variety of educational, industrial and not-for-profit industries.

Bill has developed a strong motivational approach through a combination of Human Resources, Career Coaching and practical experience in the Entertainment Industry as a producer for a number of performance venues and a music writer. 

Mr. Zahn has a Bachelor of Arts degree, has worked internationally as an entertainer and was a Youth Ambassador for the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.  

Mindy L. Zasloff, Senior Training Consultant

Ms. Zasloff has more than 20 years of experience in Human Resources, Training and Administration experience specializing in development and delivery of customized, effective employee training programs.  Programs are designed to improve productivity, morale and individual and group performance. Training in areas of change management, leadership and career development, mentoring, teambuilding, interpersonal skills, sexual harassment and diversity have proven very effective in meeting client goals.  With a broad background in human resources and in business, Ms. Zasloff has the depth and balance to effectively facilitate development within organizations. 

As an internal manager, Mindy has managed large-scale training, organizational development, employee relations, and administration departments.  As a consultant, she has used her diverse hands-on experience to design and implement specifically targeted techniques that work.  This wide range of experience has given her a practical, innovative and successful approach toward designing and implementing leading-edge competency, performance management, retention, and development programs.

As a consultant, Mindy stresses the practical side of implementing programs so that organizations can become self-reliant in sustaining best practices.  She probes to link the specific business issues of each company she works with into every consulting assignment.  By using humor and her knowledge of innovative practices, she challenges every participant to try newly acquired behaviors.

Mindy’s experience consulting with organizations ranges from small local to large global companies, and from business startups to the Fortune 500.  Her clients include, but are not limited to:  Microsoft, Amgen Sun Microsystems, Parsons, Seagate Technology, British Petroleum, General Reinsurance, J.R. As an internal member of management, Mindy directed large and complex staff organizations for Epson America, Toyota Motor Sales USA, the Metropolitan Water District, and the Two Guys and Builder’s Emporium Stores.  Mindy was Director of Administration for Espon America, Inc. (a Division of Seiko) where she reported to the CEO and managed a group of 51 employees in five functional areas.  For over eight years before joining Epson, Mindy was progressively promoted to a number of management positions at Toyota Motor Sales.  In her most recent position as Manager of Training and Employee Relations, Mindy directed all of Toyota’s organizational development, training, retention, and employee relations activities throughout the United States.  Her previous positions include Affirmative Action Officer for the Metropolitan Water District and Staffing and Recruiting Specialist for the 22 Two Guys and 53 Builders Emporium Stores.

Numerous professional organizations have utilized Mindy as a speaker on topics ranging from mentoring techniques to communicating for change.  She addressed The American Society for Training and Development’s International Conference on a consulting project that changed the behavior of warehouse workers at Toyota to become more self-directed.  In addition to guest lecturing at various universities, Mindy has taught a unique retention courses she designed geared to keeping talent in organizations, “Employee Involvement and Satisfaction,” at UCLA.  Her article on widening the fast track, “Five Ways to Move From Exclusionary to Inclusionary Training,” appears in the Jossey-Bass Training Annual of best training practices.

Mindy has an MBA from Loyola Marymount University in Westchester, Los Angeles, and a BA from the American University in Washington DC.

Suzana Harris, Senior Consultant 

Ms. Harris has over 25 years of broad-based human resources experience in Consumer, Retail, Aerospace and consulting industries.  She has special expertise in designing, developing and delivering multi level training programs, consulting and coaching managers and employees, creating and implementing performance appraisal and succession planning systems, team building, change management, career development, 360-degree assessments and recruitment. 

Her human resource experience also includes holding positions as Director of Organization and Employee Development for Neutrogena Corporation, Manager of Organization and Employee Development at Baskin - Robbins Corporate headquarters and Litton Guidance & Control Systems, recently acquired by Northrop Grumman.  She has also held positions in manufacturing, purchasing and finance with Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International now Boeing.  Suzana's consulting experience includes providing career assessment and career coaching for all levels of employees including executives.

 

Raised in California, Suzana holds a B.A. degree in Sociology from California State University Northridge and a Master’s in Business Administration from California Lutheran University.  Suzana serves as a PIHRA board member and is a member of HRKN.

 

David Kulchin

 

Mr. Kulchin has over 30 years human resources management, career coaching and training experience across several industries.  His broad based career counseling and coaching spans all industries and levels of employees including senior executives.  In addition to David’s outplacement and executive coaching experience, he has extensive background implementing management development programs, administering effective productivity improvement activities, facilitating individual and organizational change and promoting conflict-free relationships among employees. 

 

In addition to career coaching and consulting, David teaches Human Resources programs part time at UCSD and is very active in the community.  Those community activities include North County United Way, Past Board President of Hospice of the North Coast, Chair of the Community Board Scripps Hospital-Encinitas, Ex-President/Founder of the North County Personnel Association, Executive Board Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad, Past President of the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club and Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Board member. 

 

David earned his Bachelor degree in Psychology, from the University of Florida and his Masters degree from the University of Miami.  

Gerald McGuire, Senior Consultant

Mr. McGuire has broad experience in the industrial, financial and service areas, both as a line and human resources executive, and in addition, over 15 years experience in outplacement. 

His background also includes key executive and management positions with Hay Associates (an international consulting firm), General Telephone and Electronics Corporation and General Motors, as well as Vice President, Human Resources in Organization with the Traders Group, Ltd., now the Toronto Dominion Bank. 

In the course of his career, Mr. McGuire has consulted with both large and small firms, restructured newly-merged organizations, managed start‑up situations in a variety of circumstances, established union avoidance programs, and implemented management development programs. 

He holds a B.A. degree from the University of Western Ontario and two M.A. degrees; one from the University of Windsor and one from the University of California, Berkeley.  A member of several professional associations, he has contributed to the press and television on various human resources management topics, and is often called as an expert witness in wrongful termination cases.

Grace Moniz

 

Ms. Moniz provides training services in the areas of Career Development & Transition, Team Communication Development and Leadership Coaching.  As a certified Birkman International Consultant, Grace provides career consultation, coaching and training to assessing individuals’ strengths, motivational needs and behaviors.

 

Grace facilitated the delivery of numerous career transition courses, developed and delivered unique career-related and personal development curriculum, and coached candidates of all levels towards achieving their career aspirations.

 

Prior to becoming a Senior Consultant with OI Partners/The McGuire Group, Grace provided Human Resources Management and Life-Balance consulting services to clients in varied industries.  She has also held multiple Human Resources Management positions for 22 years at Mattel, Inc., a Fortune 500, consumer products company.  Her background includes Human Resources program development and implementation, management coaching, work-life consultation, training and development, employee relations, recruitment and compensation.  She is best known for having initiated Mattel’s work/life balance program, inclusive of a Child Development Center and Health & Fitness Center.

 

Grace holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management.  Continuing education includes Organization Development and College Counseling through U.C.L.A. and Ms. Moniz is a past board member for HREN, the Human Resources Executive Network organization. 

Cliff Bradshaw, Senior Consultant

Mr. Bradshaw is a seasoned human resources professional with over 13 years experience with Fortune 500 companies in all aspects of human resources. Cliff's broad range of experience includes organizational development and planning, employee relations, recruitment, selection, training, compensation, employment and career counseling at all levels and for all functions.

Cliff has worked internally and as a career transition consultant with organizations to plan and implement workforce reductions. His ability to draw on his broad corporate background results in highly effective career counseling for candidates in transition.

Mr. Bradshaw has a B.A. in Psychology and is a certified trainer in Management Practices Training. He is an active member in the Los Angeles Human Resources Association.
